Mary Bruesch holds a Bachelor of Music degree in cello performance from St. Olaf College and did graduate work in cello, chamber music, and music history at the Universities of Maine and New Mexico. She earned an M.A. in linguistics at UNM, where she currently works in the Fine Arts and Design Library as a music specialist. Before taking up the viola da gamba Mary played cello with various orchestras including the Nashville Symphony. As a gambist she has performed with the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, Musica Antigua de Albuquerque, and Santa Fe Pro Musica, and she has played violone with the Orchestra of the Duke as well as with the Albuquerque Baroque Players. Her 7-string viol was made by the Albuquerque builder Linda Shortridge after a 17 th-century instrument by Michel Collichon, and her bow is by Harry Grabenstein of Williston, Vermont.
